I received my Masters in Social Work degree in 2001 from the University of Illinois, ten years after being widowed with five children at home. I specialize in bereavement counseling. I have attended multiple hours of bereavement continuing education workshops as well as bring my experience into counseling sessions. I am also trained to administer neuropsychological testing as well as being trained in counseling those with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and chronic pain. I am also an EMDR certified therapist.
I enjoy the variety of behavioral and mental health services my office provides. Although, I specialize in Grief and Loss issues, I also have a passion for working with those that struggle with the many issues that living life creates such as stress and anxiety as well as depression. My training also includes working with those that have had a TBI and administering cognitive retraining and neuropsychological testing. Because all these challenges affect one's life it also affects one's family and friends, and I work with families attempting to adjust to all the issues that surround TBI's.
I create a comfortable, warm and safe environment. Yet, I challenge the patient's ability to identify their issues and give them confidence and power to change their thoughts and behaviors.
My experience includes group facilitation for families, adults and adolescents at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford; individual and group counseling at the Mill- an adolescent residential facility for the behaviorally troubled teenage girls; family, couple and bereavement counseling to parishes at the Catholic churches in Janesville, WI.
I also hold membership in the National Association of Social workers, American Academy for the Bereaved and National Catholic Ministry to the Bereaved.
Currently, I spend my time at my Rockford office four days a week and my remaining time is spent in my Freeport office two evenings and one day a week. My Freeport office is located at:
